In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of women launching and growing
their own businesses. Our current Indian entrepreneurship environment serves as an excellent
stage for this growth. Economic Times reports that women entrepreneurs in India own
more than 20 percent of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), accounting for
23.3 percent of the workforce. The handloom and textile sectors are key drivers of women’s
entrepreneurship in many regions of the world, particularly India. In India, women are heavily
involved in artisanal crafts and traditional weaving. In addition to providing a living, they aid
in the preservation of traditional handicrafts. However, due to restricted mobility or resource
availability, many Indian women, particularly home based caregivers, who have the capacity to
be entrepreneurs in the textile industry are deprived of possibilities. Due to social restrictions
on movement, a large number of women artisans work from home or community centres.
